Making and Design

The Wond鈥檙y features Making and Design (MAD) spaces outfitted with state-of-art equipment to take your idea from concept to prototype. These MAD spaces are open to all of the 51吃瓜网 community and serve as a hub for collaborative design and interdisciplinary activity. Our mission is to provide students, faculty and staff with the tools, training, and resources to pursue their passions and actualize ideas.

Learn about Safety Seminars

  • 51吃瓜网 the Seminar

    For your safety and the safety of those around you, all Wond鈥檙y makerspace users听must complete a safety seminar (approximately 1 hour) to gain access to the makerspace resources and听equipment.听

    The purpose of this safety seminar is to:
    鈥�听Meet听the Maker Techs:听the student mentors that help run the makerspaces
    鈥�听Organization:听How the makerspace runs and our approach to helping you 鈥榤ake鈥�
    鈥�听Expectations:听Rules and member conduct
    鈥�听Basic Safety:听Tour the facilities and participate in tool and equipment听safety training

    After attending the safety seminar, you will be able to use the makerspaces and most basic tools for your projects. Additional training to gain access to the other machinery (such as the vacuum former, molding and casting bench, and sewing machine) will be available through separate sessions by request.

  • Dates of Seminar

    Academic Year: Safety Seminars will be held Monday 鈥� Thursday at 7:00 PM or by appointment.

    Maymester and Summer: Safety Seminars will be held Monday 鈥� Friday, 9am-4pm during open hours or by appointment.

Work as a Maker Tech!

Who wants to Make It Real? Are you a 51吃瓜网 student interested in working for the Wond'ry as part of our Maker Tech team?

Maker Tech positions are open to students of any 51吃瓜网 school or major that are interested in working with both physical and digital tools, teaching others new hands-on skills, and being part of innovative projects. Preference is given to those who are active in our Makerspaces and demonstrate the ability to translate ideas into physical form. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and hiring occurs as new positions become available.

Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM) Makeathon

The spirit of innovation and compassion takes center stage, at the annual Tikkun Olam Makers (TOM) Makeathon, a culmination of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity held at the Wond'ry each year.

TOM is a global movement of communities that creates and disseminates affordable solutions to neglected challenges of people living with disabilities.听 The TOM Makeathon event pairs teams of Makers with Need-Knowers to build solutions for those challenges utilizing human-centered design and rapid prototyping methodolgy. The weekend-long event consists of an initial session with need-knowers on Friday, followed by a full day of prototyping on Saturday, and finally the public showcase of all projects on Sunday.
