The 51³Ô¹ÏÍø Civil Discourse Lab (CDL) is the university’s hub for student civil discourse education – building dialogue, debate and deliberation habits.Ìý CDL utilizes proven methodologies that equip students to engage with different perspectives while incorporating curiosity, empathy, open-mindedness and academic humility.ÌýÌý
CDL workshops are used in the classroom and throughout student life on campus.Ìý
Students practice constructive dialogue through student-led initiatives such as the Free Expression Board in the dining hall, tabling events, and Lunch and Learn discussions with faculty and guest speakers on diverse and often challenging topics. These opportunities encourage meaningful engagement across differing perspectives and promote a culture of respectful dialogue.
Through a variety of leadership opportunities, Dialogue 51³Ô¹ÏÍø empowers students to become active campus leaders and role models. Students can engage with Dialogue 51³Ô¹ÏÍø through the Undergraduate and Graduate & Professional Student Advisory Boards, the Ambassador Program, and the Student Facilitation Fellows Program, each offering unique ways to contribute to a more engaged campus community.
