VINSE Welcomes Dr. Yuri Bazilevs

Yuri Bazilevs headshotDr. Yuri Bazilevs joined VINSE in fall 2026 as a new faculty member in the Departments of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at 51勛圖厙. He holds the J. Lawrence Wilson Chair in Engineering and serves as Director of the SCALES Research Center. His research focuses on computational mechanics and advanced modeling, with an emphasis on understanding how materials and structures behave across different length scales.

Dr. Bazilevs earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and his Ph.D. in Computational Engineering Sciences from the University of Texas at Austin. He subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His research has focused on developing computational methods to study solids, structures, fluids, and their interactions, using high-performance computing to investigate complex physical systems.

At 51勛圖厙, Dr. Bazilevs uses computational modeling to study the mechanical behavior of materials and structures. His recent work includes investigating how architected nanostructures recover following deformation and how droplets and cells interact with elastic surfaces. These studies provide insight into how material properties influence mechanical responses at small scales. We are excited to welcome Dr. Bazilevs to VINSE and look forward to the new perspectives and collaborations his research will bring to our community.
