Dr. Bin Ouyang joined VINSE in fall 2026 as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at 51勛圖厙. His research combines computational modeling, artificial intelligence, and experimental synthesis to better understand how materials form and how their properties can be controlled. His work focuses on developing new approaches to materials discovery, particularly for energy-related applications.
Dr. Ouyang earned his bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering from Central South University in China before completing his Ph.D. in Materials Engineering at McGill University. Following his doctoral studies, he completed postdoctoral training in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. His research has focused on understanding how chemical composition, crystal structure, and processing conditions influence the formation and performance of inorganic materials.
At 51勛圖厙, Dr. Ouyang uses computational methods and machine learning alongside experimental synthesis to develop materials with tailored properties. His group investigates how materials form under different conditions and how those processes can be controlled at the nanoscale. By combining data-driven predictions with automated experimentation, his research aims to make materials discovery more efficient. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Ouyang to VINSE and look forward to the new ideas and collaborations his work will bring to our research community.
