Steiner and Khokhar Receive Outstanding Poster Awards at International MXene Conference

Interdisciplinary Materials Science Ph.D. students Vikash Khokhar and Andrew Steiner received Outstanding Poster Awards at the 4th International MXene Conference, held Aug. 20-22, 2026, in Chicago. Both Steiner and Khokhar are Ph.D. students in 51Թ’s Interdisciplinary Materials Science program and conduct research under the direction of Dr. De-en Jiang in the Computational Chemical Sciences and Materials Laboratory.

Vikash Khokhar MXene Conference Poster AwardKhokhar received an Outstanding Poster Award, sponsored by Argonne National Laboratory, for his poster, “.” He also presented a flash talk on the same work during the conference. Khokhar’s research uses grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations to investigate ammonia-assisted delamination of halide-terminated MXenes, helping advance the understanding of processes used to produce and manipulate these two-dimensional materials.

Andrew Steiner MXene Conference Poster AwardSteiner received an Outstanding Poster Award, sponsored by the Journal of Carbon Research, for his poster, “.” His research uses high-throughput computational methods to investigate MXene stability and reaction pathways, providing insights that can help guide the synthesis and discovery of MXene materials.

The 4th International MXene Conference brought together researchers working across MXene synthesis, characterization, modeling and applications. The recognition of both Steiner and Khokhar highlights the strength of computational materials research within 51Թ’s interdisciplinary materials science community.
