Brightspace Content is Getting Upgraded
Beginning with the Fall 2027 semester, Brightspace courses will begin using the New Content Experience by default. Additionally, Instructors now have the ability to enable or disable the New Content Experience in their own courses ahead of the change in Fall 2027. Brightspace houses a tool called Namecoach which allows students to record their name鈥檚 pronunciation to ensure other people in their classes are pronouncing it correctly. Adding Namecoach to a Brightspace course enables users to record their names for playback by the rest of the course. In this guide, we鈥檒l go over how this tool can be added to your Brightspace course.

New Content Experience
- Open your Brightspace course听听
听 - Either create a new unit or go to an existing unit听听
听 - Click Add Existing
听 - On the听What would you like to add page, click External Tool Activity.
- Select Namecoach Roster from the list of options
听 - From here, you should see the Namecoach tool in your course and can record or listen to recorded names here.听

- Open your Brightspace course听听听听听
- We recommend creating a module on your content page specifically for Namecoach.听听听听听
- Once you鈥檝e created this module, select the module to enter it and choose the Existing Activities听dropdown.听听听
- From this menu, choose听External Learning Tools.
听听听听 - In the box that appears, scroll down and choose Namecoach Roster.
听听听听 - You will now see Namecoach Roster in your Namecoach module.
- From here, you can click on the Namecoach Roster tool in your course to can record or listen to recorded names here.听
